We hire slowly, and mostly for judgement.
Our customers read your work on a phone with one bar, at a boat ramp, at six in the morning. There is no jobs board here — if the work below sounds like yours, write to us. That is genuinely how most of this team arrived.
where we usually need people
The three kinds of work
Engineering
Product engineers who talk to operators directly. You will ship things that a named person asked for and then hear from them about it, which is a faster loop than most jobs offer.
Support and onboarding
The people who migrate operations and answer the phone in July. This is not a tier-one queue job — it is the product, and it needs people who understand the business.
Sales
Long conversations with owners who have been sold to badly before. The job is telling them honestly whether this fits, including when it does not.
what we look for
Four things, in order
We are a small company and every hire changes it, so we would rather wait than fill a seat.
- Judgement over credentials. We care what you have decided, not where you decided it
- Experience in this world — guiding, rowing, packing, shop work — or real curiosity about it
- Comfort with a small company, where the thing you notice is broken becomes yours to fix
- Plain writing. Most of the work here is decided in writing
how hiring goes
Four steps, no portal
FIRST
A letter, not a form
Write to us. What you have built or run, and what you would want to work on. No portal.
THEN
A real conversation
A call with Connor, usually long. Mostly about how you think and what you have decided when it was hard.
NEXT
Work you would actually do
A short paid piece of real work, or a walk through something you have already built. No abstract puzzles.
FINALLY
Talk to an operator
You should meet a customer before you join. If the industry does not appeal to you, better to find out now.
Tell us what you would want to work on
A few paragraphs is plenty. What you have built or run, and the part of this you would want to own. It reaches a person, and you will get a reply.
